Does the Philippines charge Php 10,000 for traveling to and from the NAIA terminal?

Are Chinese tourists being ripped off? Are they charged PHP 10,000 to travel to and from the NAIA terminal?

On December 18, local time, the Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) of the Philippines stated that it was investigating a video circulating on the Internet, in which an airport taxi driver allegedly charged passengers up to 11,000 pesos.

According to the video, the taxi driver showed a passenger a so-called fare sheet, which even had the logo of the Ministry of Tourism on it. According to the price list, departures from the airport to Terminal 1 cost PHP 11,500, Terminal 2 to PHP 12,000, Terminal 3 to PHP 13,500, and Terminal 4 to PHP 10,300.

Meanwhile, the price from the airport to any hotel in Manila is P10,300, while the price to a public transportation hub is P9,700.

According to the ride-hailing platform Grab, the fare to and from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) should not exceed P300 and should not exceed P500 during peak periods.

The fee schedule also reads, “Please abide by airport policies. Failure to comply with airport policies is punishable by Philippine law and is as valid as the original receipt,”

It is reported that this video came from a Facebook group composed of tourists from Taiwan, China.

The post was made when a security guard told the pair there was no shuttle to Terminal 4 and suggested they ask the taxi driver.

Several tourists then got on the bus, but after discovering the taxi driver’s rip-off behavior, they asked the taxi driver to pull over, but the driver asked them to pay 10,000 pesos each and locked the door to prevent the passengers from getting off.

The passenger claimed that he only had 5,000 pesos, but the driver finally agreed to accept the 5,000 pesos and unlock the door.

LTFRB spokesperson Celine Pialago said in a press statement: “The authority is currently verifying the authenticity of the video. We take incidents like this seriously and are committed to ensuring the integrity and fairness of taxi services. Our top priority It is about adhering to service standards and protecting the rights of passengers.”
